The last thing you want to do is weaken your immune system by exerting yourself.

Personally I wouldnt go all out in the gym with a cold - maybe some light work if you want to feel like you did something - but personally I would recover first

Chances are if you are sick you won't be able to go balls to the wall anyways. Just take it easy.

Doing a lot of working out (especially cardio) which causes a lot of sweating is a great way to prevent getting sick because as you drink water and sweat it out profusely you're basically cleansing yourself from the inside out. Also eating right supports the immune system making it stronger to fight diseases faster. This is hyperaccelerated by being in shape because you'll have better bloodflow in all areas of your body compared to someone who's out of shape, which makes it quicker to transport white blood cells to fend off bacteria, etc etc.

Alright done with my gym advertisement style speech. The point I'm getting at is that with all that, it's actually a lot WORSE to exercise and do cardio WHILE sick because your body will be so focused on recovering from your workouts it will take you a lot longer to fight of your cold. You do still need to stay really clean though.

Recommendations... turn the hot water on in your shower all the way (don't let it touch you of course) and stand in the steam for a good 30 minutes. Also make sure you don't lock yourself in a room with the windows and door shut, you need to have fresh air cycling through so you're not just breathing in your own filth. Try some of these suggestions along with your good supply of vitamines and fruit and this should be gone in a couple of days no problem.

Working out while sick is not really the best idea from an endocrine standpoint. When you exercise, especially higher intensity modalities of exercise, your body releases cortisol as part of the stress response. One of cortisol's functions is to depress your immune system temporarily.

With that said, I actually workout with colds when I get them, but I don't recommend it to other people. It obviously depends on the severity, but I never really get horrible colds. It's usually just some sniffles and sneezing, but I don't feel off at all. However, if you are questioning it enough to come on here and ask everyone, then you probably need the time off. I just listen to my body; I definitely take off for sickness if need be.

CP is right. There is no reason to even workout whenever you are sick. For one you are tearing yourself down to rebuild in the first place and if you arent totally healthy, then you are not going to rebuild correctly.
