Why can't the trap bar deadlift...

be used as a "new" competitive lift? IMO, it is a much less technical lift than the regular deadlift, therefore, a safer lift, and since it puts you in a better leverage to lift, bigger loads can be lifted. It would be more of a brute strength test, as opposed to strength plus precision needed in a conventional deadlift.

People always want to see huge numbers put up and I am sure the big powerlifters out there, if they trained for it, could put up over 1000 pound trap bar deadlifts easily.

in strong man contests, the handles are on the side for a lot of the lifts, like the frame carry and the car deadlift. They are higher then a regular bar (16 or 18" deadlift) and similiar to a trap bar movement.

it is not a contested lift because it is not one of the traditional powerlifts.

Mine does and I was planning on using it, until.....

Then again, the trap bar might be a great alternative once things start shaping up. Might be some time though.

I think just about every high school has one. It is shaped like a diamond and you stand in the middle of it. Put weights on both sides and lift it straight up.

It is nothing like an ez bar, have you ever seen one? Trap Bar is usually used for Shrugs (Thats why they call it a TRAP bar), and for deadlifting, P-funk says its alot better than regular bar (puts you in a better position to pull)
