Ive done anything from 12 to 24 sets depending on the volume, intensity, and frequency throughout the week.

    Its all relative, baby.

It depends on how many and which compound movements you're doing, how close to failure you are coming on each set, how many times a week you're working out, the intensity, etc.

There's this thing called trail and error. Use it wisely.

I'm working intensely + I'm new, so I rarely exceed 12 sets. Sometimes a lot less.

Well sure, if you're deloading or just coming back after a layoff. Otherwise you need about double that.

1-2 sets per workout? Is it even worth the effort of going to the gym?

1-2 per bodypart....that can equal 5-10 total sets depending on what Im doing.

I think its well worth the trouble... I am doing quite well as far as size/strength.

OK, it makes sense now. The original question was how many sets per workout.

I am pretty sure he does HIT Training, it is usually just 1 set per movement to failure

5 rest-paused sets are the most exhausting thing I have ever done in the gym.

    An avg day...

Incline Smith Press to failure... one set, rest paused
Military Press to failure, one set rp
    Tricep Extensions to failure rp
    Pulldowns to failure, rp
    Deadlifts to failure

    Done.

Wow, of course I'm aware of the studies that say 1 set to failure is enough, just didn't know anybody who only did 1 set. I see what you're saying...

How long have you been training like this and what kind of results have you seen?

I'm also doing a push/pull/lower, and I do between 15-20. I don't think 20 is too much unless you do too many of one certain exercise. For example, doing 8 sets of curls on pull day would be a waste in my opinion.
