    How am I doing?

Last year at 32 years old, I decided to get into shape. I had never lifted before and I would eat out all the time. My diet was terrible and my biggest exercise was playing video games and poker.

Anyway, a year later, I have lost 50 pounds which is great. I am playing hockey, biking and doing martial arts as well as P/RR/shock lifting 3 times a week (push/pull/legs). I know I pretty much have the weight loss thing down. I have been cutting for the last year with good results.

The only thing is, when I look back to what I was lifting last year at this time... it is pretty much the same. There have been no increases in strength really. So what do you think? Is it just because I have been cutting? Or should I have seen some newbie strength gains? Don't forget I am an old fart.

After I loose another 10 pounds, I will be starting a bulk... and I am really hoping that I will start to see some strength gains at that time.

    Any opinions?

well benching 200lbs at a bodyweight of 200lbs isn't so great....but benching that same amount of weight at 150 is pretty damn good, know what I mean?

If you want to become stronger, perhaps try a program that isn't geared towards gains in size....sounds like you've done the same program for a year straight, is this correct?

I have tried a couple programs actually. I did full body for a while when I first started. Then I changed to push/pull/legs. It's only been the last couple months that I went to P/RR/S.

So yeah I guess my weight lifted to body weight ratio is getting higher. I haven't lost any strength... I just haven't gained any. I kind of think that is expected on a cut anyway. I was just wondering what people think of not gaining any strength over a year long cut for a newbie.

What exactly is you diet? You said you've been cutting for quite some time now. You might be in too much of a caloric deficit to see any strength or size gains.

Not really... but I was under the impression P/RR/S is good for both size and strength.

That's pretty much what I was thinking I've been on 2200 calories for quite a while now. I am thinking the strength and size gains will come after I quit cutting and start eating a lot more.

I concurr, if strength is what you want and THEN size...something high frequency, high intensity, and a few extra cals a day will do the trick!!
