    How Much Sleep

OK, i was just wondering how much sleep everyone gets here. I have read other threads and this comes up quite a bit so i thought i would ask the question. I am doing shift work and have to be up at 5am and i usually in bed by 12pm getting 5 hours sleep, when on 2pm - 10pm i get 6/7 hours this has always been fine as i have never been a big sleeper and if i get anymore i feel worst for it. I can not nap in the day because when i wake up i feel like shit and feel like i need a shower to wake myself up. How much do you guys sleep and do you nap in the day ????

Wrong section. Also, do a search. There are several topics about how much sleep you get.

I feel pretty "normal" energy levels with ~6 hours of sleep. I can still wake up and have decent work outs with 5 hours though. Less than that and my whole day suffers and I might end up crashing for an hour or two at some point during the day, if my work schedule allows it.. I would say I only end up taking 1 or two of those "naps" in any given month.

Luckily my job allows me to naturally wake up whenever my body feels like it's time. I never know when I'm going to get to bed but I can at least control when I get out of it, so it works out in the end

I aim to get 8-10 hours sleep a night because those hours are reccomended. It is usually 7-8 for me though.
I often feel tired after w/o's, if I was to lie down, I could probably doze off but 9/10 I fight the little bit of tiredness and wait till my bed-time.

PS. this probably should be in the health section.

I also do shift work... which is a health risk in itself. There's a resent thread about sleep that mentions that.

After months of working 3rd shift my body seems to have adapted fairly well.
I sleep 6-9 hours, sometimes straight through - sometimes waking once (always the same time), about 30 minutes... then straight to waking time.

On days off - I sleep way too much, maybe 14 hours at a stretch. Makes me feel like crap the whole next day. I'm trying to keep the "off-day" schedule the same as work. BTW - following a very intense workout... I sleep best.

Another note. My REM (dream state) is extremely active lately. I like that.

Overall though, my sleep is extraordinarily improved since I've adapted a new active lifestyle!

Jimsnow, 14 hours is a hell of a lot of sleep! Dont think I've ever slept that much.

Sleep effects my gains so much, my previous job had me waking up different hours every day, I had to travel round the country, one day I might be local and get up around half 7, the next day i could be in Scotland and id have to get up around half 4, it was horrible cos I could never get a sleep schedule sorted, so my sleep would vary from 4 to 8 hours a nite, however most the time it was crap sleep, i kept waking up feeling really anxious knowing that I would have to get up soon. During this 6 month period by gains were crap, i was ill around 4 times in this period.

Anywho, im now in a new job, 9-5 every day, in terms of sleep this is perfect for me, 9 times out of 10 in the week ill be in bed between 11 and 12 and then wake up just before 8, getting at least 7 and a half hours sleep every day, sometimes more, really good sleep aswell, not usually waking up at all in the night. Past 6 months I've had some great gains and although I've got my training and diet in order, I think my sleep pattern has helped a lot also

6-7 hours is optimal, but I've been getting more of late.

It amazes me. The body is such a creature of habit. It seems to rely on an internal clock for so many things. Almost in a robotic way.

In the 8th grade I used to get a raging boner the last 10 minutes of geometry class for no reason at all. Day in, day out. I dreaded waiting for the class to exit at the bell... so I could exit with my math book covering my groin.

If I awake, after bedding at 11:30am (3rd shift worker), it's always near 4:45 pm for 30 minutes. Always within ten minutes of that.

Your body seems to adapt to patterns in many aspects... then creates the conditions that fulfill mental and physiological needs?

I'm pretty confident that's topic for discussion in another forum.

    Lol JimSnow your right though.
tbh, its kinda scary to me and i realize the pattern. Now that winter time has come; it happens more and i experimented and found the reason. Days that i go to school without a big breakfast and tired I get boners out of nowhere(mind u im only 17) not in math class but social class. I used to ask myself it was my ugly old male teacher but now i finally know.
Its because his class is so cold and im so tired and for me i dont know, maybe something wrong gentically but it just happens, i tried to hide it under desk and stuff but its really scary. My class is full of guys too and im straight o.o

its always happened to me, i gotta go to the doctors and ask why do i get boners.

Now that information is topsecret. Anyone trying to stalk me and email that to my friends or people i know will get assasinated.

My sleep schedule is erratic. I usually sleep anywhere between 4-7 hours most nights of the week. Those nights where I can only manage 4-5 hours I usually supplement with a midday nap of at least an hours, but sometimes as much as 3 hours if I have time for it.

My body likes at least 7 hours, but it's not possible if I train late and then have an early morning the next morning.

Witchblade i know there are other topics on how much sleep you need, but this was a personal question to actually ask everyone here how much they are getting, maybe wrong section fair enough, but im thinking if you sleep more do you get better gains, as i said it makes me feel worse if i sleep too much...
