    workout schedule

do you guys think it is better to train on a set schedule or to train instinctively when it comes to workout days? For example, I trained yesterday and would normally not want to train 2 days in a row, but I feel real good and energized today, should I take advantage of that and train today, or stick to a schedule of every other day?

so one week, maybe you feel good 3 days in a row and train, then take 2 days off, then train, then a day off, then train 2 days, then take off 3....would there be any long term difference in this strategy as opposed to just going every other day or something like that regardless of how you feel on a particular day?

    thanks

I definitly think it depends on experience. If you are a novice (and you are not), then no a set scheledule is better. But if you are very experienced (as you are), then I think it definitly could be a good thing as long as theres no skipping workouts.

I prefer to train on a set schedule if at all possible. I work out Mon/Wed/Fri plus a weekend day, getting up at 4am during the week. I need Tues and Thurs to sleep in (7am) and recover. Getting up 2 days in a row early is not something I look forward to or particularly want to do.

As for feeling energized, that feeling doesn't exist at 4am, so I just go with whatever I've got. If I'm feeling tired, I just scale back the workout.

well then naturally, this wouldn't apply to you . Damn man, how the hell do you do it? I would literally break if I had to workout at 4am and use the weights I do. I am sometimes not fully awake by 4 in the afternoon, let alone 4 in the morning.

So i can see why you answered how you did....but assume that you worked out in the afternoon after work. there are days I get home and I am just shot, but it's a scheduled day, so I trudge through the workout. I was just thinking, if I am on an off day, but I feel great, why should I waste that feeling knowing that the next day on my scheduled day, I may not be feeling it when I get home, you know?

Assuming there were no constraints imposed by other obligations, I would be very tempted to adjust my work out schedule based on how I felt. Sure, why not?

I like to adhere to a schedule as much as possible.

But, I value instinct. Sometimes.. I'll axe the schedule for a day and do something like an absurdly ridiculous string of supersets and take an extra day off after - or some Farmer's Walks until I can't stand it.

It's all about some variety to keep you fresh once in a while?
