Every other day, do as many as you can until you can do 10.

    your joking, right?

read the stickies and make a whole program, you can't just train pushing and no pulling, unless you want potential shoulder injury, and rounded shoulders

Start a total body weight lifting program using weights you can handle while still making every rep balanced, fluid, and with proper form. Include dumbell and barbell flat bench presses in your push routine for more pushup strength, and do pushups when you can.

I always tell people when training to pass our pushup eval, the more you do, the more you can do. Doing pushups every night is what got me to 104 in 60 seconds.

If you can't do any, I would start by doing pushups in a power rack. Set the bar at a level where you can get a decent number of repetitions (8+) and do a few sets a few times each week. Make that the only pressing you do for a little bit. As it becomes easier, lower the position of the bar in the rack.

Once you get to the lowest setting, and you can do a good number there, you should be able to do a pushup or two on the floor. Start by doing a pushup ladder. During a few workouts a week, hit a whole bunch of singles throughout the workout so the total volume increases. Once a bunch of singles becomes a bit easier, do doubles, then triples. Eventually, you should be able to just start doing them in straight sets or supsersets for 5+ reps, and getting to 10 from there shouldn't be an issue.

No, I wasn't joking. Read the original request again, and try to comprehend it. He wanted to know he could be able to do 10 pushups. Nothing else.

If you manage to hurt your shoulders while doing 10 pushups, I'm flying over to personally congratulate you. Seriously.

I would ask the same question, because if I could not do 10 - then my program would vary based on what I was able to do NOW.

When I could not do a single GHR I simply did assisted reps.

You could start out doing pushups on your kness... they used to call them ladies' pushups.

I'll bet there's more people than you would think that can't do 10 pushups in good form.

The knee pushups are okay, but I like to decrease the lever arm distance by elevating their hands instead. I feel like the transition to the floor is easier because the position you hold yourself in is more similar.

You're pretty young though, if I remember correctly. Things change dramatically when talking about the adult population.

You're right, CP. I'd like to see some of the older, out-of-shape fat-fucks that I work with try to do 10 pushups.

I can do many more than 20...and I mean all the way down...I can clap if you like...and I weigh 200lbs. I was just saying when you do them right you can definitely tell. When I was younger and didn't work out, I did push ups and sit ups. Before I knew it I could fuckin crank out 50 without breaking a sweat. I was also half doing them really fast and I weighed a buck fourty

Keep in mind I believe it was a woman that posted this.

To tell you all a story about a normal looking woman, not overweight and not abnormally thin, one of her cats she could not even pick up and she was 23 at the time. Whats funny is that she worked in a gym, although she was just there to watch the kids.

I know, its ridiculous. I have to assume that some people just do almost nothing physical, including not doing their own shopping, to where they would be so extremely weak. More than one female I have come across has claimed such magnificent feats of weakness.

Be it doubt or lack of coordination with certain movements, or lack of CNS stimulation I don't know, but I'm sure others out there have known at least one person who was very weak.

In high school as a freshman one of our classmates could not bench the bar, he is now a teacher last I heard.

That's the first thing that crossed my mind when you posted about the woman not being able to pick up her cat. How does she buy groceries and take them home. It's hard to believe that someone could be that weak. Not doubting your story, just shaking my head in amazement.

She was still living with mommy and had almost no ambition it seemed. She wanted someone to rescue her, she liked to complain about things in an 'innocent' way and did nothing to dig herself out of her own situation. She just wanted to collect kitties and eventually pop out babies. She probably has an impressive collection of Hello Kitty dolls.

The kind of person you like to run quickly away from, which is why I don't talk to her anymore. She was set in her ways.
