Worst day of my life

BODYBUILDING SUPPLEMENTS

It happened...

I have grounded myself. Hopefully not permanently, but I cannot run, not for a long time.

I've been running over 50 miles a week for the past couple months, progressing into my specialization period of training for an upcoming marathon in January. The weather here drastically changed, and went from moderately hot to bitter cold almost overnight. I didn't adjust my warmups or nutrition to accomodate the different climate which sort of set the stage for my accident. On my 10th mile my right foot landed on a stray rock that had rolled into the "runner's road" track that I run on. It hurt pretty bad but the pain subsided after a moment and I was so near the end (only running 12 miles that day) so I pressed on. Not five minutes into continuing I felt a hideous sharp pain on the bottom of my foot.

I took off my shoe and saw the area had swollen immensly after only a few seconds. I immediately proceeded to the clinic and the doctor told me (after extensive examination) what I feared. I tore something. Something bad. I almost completely tore a tendon branch in my tibial. I'll be sent back to the states tomorrow. It will be several months before I can even think about running again.

This goes to show no matter how dedicated you are and how cautious you THINK you are, your enthusiasm can stifle reasoning and terrible things can result.

This was the worst day I've lived in a long... long time. I've really lost something I love.

jeez man....sorry to hear about this. Were you preparing for the Dubai marathon (I think it is in January)?

Hope you heal well.

sorry to hear that. hopefully a speedy recovery

Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.

Yes they were going to extend my stay here and let me participate in the Dubai marathon under supervision (it's sort of an off limits area to us right now).

I've been getting a lot of shocked looks from people who see me limping painfully around everywhere.

Thank you guys for your sympathy.

X-ray's came back, doc said it looks like the flexor digitorum, but he said it's very hard to tell with the substandard equipment they have here. Not only that I brought up to him that that's not a superfiscial tendon so it's hard to believe the incident with the rock would have affected a fiscial tendon...

I'll find out more when I get back home. Which currently is Wichita KS. I'm originally from California.

If I had a better guess it would be the plantar... abener... something I can't remember the whole name, that thick one that runs straight back.

Everytime I do heavy lifts... I imagine horrible scenarios. Grounds me, but holds me back at times. Keep form strict - all you can do.

It's the little unexpected things that can screw you up the most. 5 weeks ago I hit my elbow on a piece of heavy equipment. Hurt like hell, like a paper cut. Thought nothing about it 20 minutes later. Now, it's a nagging problem. Nothing like you're experiencing for sure. Maybe a bone chip or cartilage injury.

Humans are "fragile" creatures.

Best of Luck! Hate to hear things like this.

Yeah they'll just put me in dispatch or something. Won't be able to work on the jets for a while since I can't climb ladders or safely carry equipment around.

--Yeah Jim this stuff does just sort of come out of nowhere it seems. Have you ever had the elbow looked at to see what the problem really is?

I feel your pain, due to injury i've removed almost all movements which put pressure on the spine (the best movements).

I'm BAAAAAACK

Wow, it's interesting how you can feel strange doing normal every day things like driving a car, wearing civilian clothes everywhere, and eating at resturaunts can seem strange when you've only been without them for 6 months.

How has everyone been? I know it's only been a couple weeks but still. I'm hobbling around like a champ right now. The Air Force is providing me free Physical Therapy but I'm getting it from my friends instead (yes I have more than one friend who's a PT). I should be walking normally in a month supposedly. Not sure about running.
