Last week for legs I did 4x12 Squats, 4x10 deadlifts, 4x12 leg press, extensions and curls....is that too much? I'm trying to put maximum effort into my legs but I don't want to go overboard...

you have 3 quad-dominant exercises, and 2 hip-ham dominants, that is not good make sure you balance them, make it 2 and 2...

drop the curls, extensions, and leg press and do some one-legged freeweight movements

Or 3 and 3, depending on your goals.
Are you training for sports? Or are you into bodybuilding?

Actually that is a good workout.... however dropping the extensions and leg curls to 3 sets would be more advisable, especially since you want your sets to be intense. Squats and deadlifts can be done for 4 working sets IMO.

I'm starting to consider squats an "everything" dominant movement lol. They destroy my entire legs.
