    Post To lose AND gain

Is is possible to lose weight and still build muscle...and I don't mean a little muscle. I mean a lot of muscle. I am 5' 2.5". In October I weighed 248 and now after weight lifting and exercise I am 166. I still need to lose about 35-40 lbs but I am ready to hit the weights hard. Will I keep losing fat while I build muscle? I am eating 5-6 small meals a day and I am working out 4 days a week and still doing my cardio work out.

    What do you think?

It will not be possible to gain "a lot of muscle", but it is possible to lose weight and gain muscle simultaneously. It's easier to gain muscle and gain weight at the same time though.

You probably want to keep working hard to loose the fat first while lifting moderately. Once you've reached you fat lose goal then start trying to shape your body through weight lifting.

    Keep up the great work!

I agree with Prince, it is much easier to gain mas along with weight and then cut down, but you can do it the other way...it just takes longer.

Sounds like you have made great progress already though...congrats!

I have heard when trying to lose weight and gain mass you should have two types of wkouts- one with high cardio and high rep training for fat loss and one with stable cardio and heavy rep(bulking phase) The two can be alternated weekly, biweekly or monthly-just an idea..

I am not eating as much protien as w8 recommends I don't think or as much fat. I am eating more than a dieting person because I am lifting a lot, but not as much as recommended in here because I am trying to (at this point) still lose some fat.

GO ME!! I have now lost 84.5 lbs. I weigh 163.5 I AM SO EXCITED!!! I think my diet is working well. I feel good and I am looking good.

    Anyway here goes.

Rotated with different protien each day, diff. veges etc...
    #1 Multi-viatmin & calcium pill
    3 egg whites - 1 yolk
1/2 cup oatmeal (measured dry) made with fat free milk

#2 3 oz grilled chicken breast
2 cup salad (spinach, green and yellow squash, carrots) & jalapeno
1 TBS Lite low fat dressing on my salad

#3 1 TBS Nat. peanut butter
6 crackers for peanut butter sandwhiches
    1/2 banana

#4 3 oz grilled chicken breast
    1 cucumber (no dressing)

    #5 1 can tuna in H20
1-2 cups raw spinach & carrots (no dressing) & jalapeno
WOW brand corn chips (serving size 6)<----I actually stick to that

#6 3-5 oz eye of round steak
Yellow squash and zucchini in small amount of vinegar with lots of pepper & jalapeno

I have been pretty good. I don't cheat on sweets for sure, occationally I will have to go get a chip to much...but since I have started eating 6 times a day I don't cheat it seems. I am doing good to be hungry when it is time to eat.

I have cut out as much salt as possible. I don't salt my food or cook with it at all now which is a HUGE feat for me as I used to salt everything before I even tasted it now things that have too much salt in them suck!!

My blood pressure back in October was 145/90 with a resting heart rate of 78. Now as of day before yesterday my blood pressure is 125/75 with a resting heart rate of 58 (first thing in the morning) and getting better all of the time!!

Ok, enough of the book for now.

    BUH BYE!!!
