Well what about never. Saturday and Sunday are enough. I like food way to much, I can’t afford taking a week off.

when ever I feel the need. I usually take off for 2-3 months a year to give my body and CNS a complete break.
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

Sometimes I am forced to take a week off, like when I'm doing an academic program, traveling, on vacation, etc...Usually those are my only weeks off. I don't think I could ever want to take a week off for the hell of it, or even to recover. But I do see a benefit to breaks...it can really remotivate your workouts and get you some nice improvements.

Whenever I feel it's time for a break OR even better a holiday OR dreaded illness strikes

Generally every 2-3 months I guess, just listen to your body and hear what it is saying to you!

well only when i take a vacation which is few and far between. And then it isn't a full week but close enough.
"When I use the word intensity I mean the ability to continue past and through the pain barrier where your mind pleads to stop and in fact convinces your body that you have hit failure, but you push through. How far you push through that barrier is the level of intensity with which you train." -- Twin Peak

Depends what i'm training for. If cutting i take a week off at about the 8 week mark. If bulking it ussually about every 21/2-3 months 1 weeks off.

The answer to this question can vary quite substancially depending on the circumstances i.e., training method used, unexpected injuries, unexpected overtraining, mental and physical stress, work related, vacation etc. Having said that I myself never usually plan a week off but it usually for some reason or another happens every 6 months so i voted for that.

Took off this week in fact.
Was feeling tired, unmotivated, and fuzzy in the head. Wasn't my diet, I know that, so I felt I was close to overtraining. Been getting alot of calf cramps at night too, even after eating 2 banannas before bed.

If all my joints hurt if I don't do stretches every 10 minutes is it time for a break? They actually seem to get a bit worse now that I haven't been in the gym for 2 days...

my biggest problem is when I take one week off it turns into two weeks. I need to work out regularly or I loose my motivation.
