What's your guys' opinion on this matter?
I was reading an article on a guy who went from being an average guy with a little bit of a spare tire goin on to a Chippendale's dancer in 6 weeks. This isn't what caught my attention, rather the workout the trainer put him on.
Note: this routine was to shape up, and to gain 10-12 lbs. But, she put him on a program for six weeks where he did medium weight and repped for 60 seconds in each set, lowering or lifting the weight 3 seconds down, 3 seconds up -- constant tension. Here was his routine (of course along with proper diet as well): Day 1 - Chest/Shoulders Bench press - 60 sec, 3 sets DB Inc. press - 60 sec, 3 sets DB Mil. press - 60 sec, 2 sets Tric. exten. - 60 sec, 2 sets Day 2 - Back/Biceps Lat pull-down - 60 sec, 3 sets Seated row - 60 sec, 3 sets Shrug w/ cable - 60 sec, 2 sets Biceps curl - 60 sec, 2 sets Day 3 - Rest Day 4 - Supersets Bench + Lat PD DB In.Press +Seated Row DB Mil. Press + Shrug Tric. exten. + Biceps curl Day 5 - Cardio + Abs Day 6 - Start over again Now, I know some of the exercises may seem like weak sauce, and the lack of legs is ridiculous. Other than that, does it even sound decent? |

So 10 rep sets with a 60 second TUT. I believe 45 seconds or somewhere thereabouts was estimated to be optimal for mass, for those who believe TUT and not rep count is the "magic key" - which also means for those who seem to believe there is a magic singular key.
I knew a guy in high school who trained very slowly and deliberately, Francois Benfatto trained that way as well and they were both well developed (and both juiced...) P.S. A lot of women I have met are actually quite fond of developed legs on a male. |

For hyperthrophy reasons only, I guess it's pretty decent. I bet the guy was juicing though.
For overall fitness, it's pretty horrible. Not enough back work, lousy split, no leg work, too much isolation work and the inclusion of supersets in a workout for a beginner. |

Ditto! Anyhow, what's the rush? I know we'd all like to be big and cut ASAP generally speaking but if there's one thing that lifting for a number of years teaches you it's that there is no rush. The weights will always be there waiting for you, and if you enjoy what you do then take your time! |

What this means is that when we drop a ball and it falls to the ground, it wasn't the ball that moved (down to the ground), but the ground that moved (up to the ball)

I have tried a slow tempo before, and yes, it delivers results, but fast and explosive delivers results too, I think it's good to experiment with different styles of training. The way I see it, if it delivers results, it's all good...
