Help me soar
now to paint the picture;
I am a little vertically challenged about 173cm or aprox 5ft9 or so and my sport of choice is 'indoor beach volleyball', i absolutly love it although i can get some good downward direction and i feel i am only missing those spikes by a little when jumping i dont get as high as i would like to.If anyone knows, are there any techniques/ exercises that i can use to increase my vertical leap so i can soar like eagle (or at least jump that little higher to get an awsome spike). thanks, any help is good |

I have been snowboarding for 4 years and during that time my jump has increased greatly, i used to play a fair bit of basketball aswell which helped my jump a lot. Personally I think that working your calves alongside with doing some form of squat program, perhaps quick explosive reps will help your vertical jump.

how is your squat strength? That is the first thing to look at. Look at hip strength and your base levels of strength.

now please dont laugh (well not to hard anyway)
My instructor when i first started was a bit of a knob and i dont think he really had an idea what he was doing (probly just some guy off the street). But, thanks to this site, i have been developing a workout + diet that i will be able to use more effectivly, i am also still learning my body parts/areas/muscles and the exercises i can use to work them out. but getting back to P-Funks question. my instructor did not focus much of my workout on my legs. Basicaly he just gave me squats to do he started me on 3 x 12 reps at 40kgs about 80lbs and told me to gradually increase weight. I am now doing 3 x 12 reps at 120kgs about 240lbs or close to that. from what iv seen my legs are naturally big considering i dont work them out much, they are about 61cm or 24" at thier thickest and my calves are 41cm or about 16" I dont, well not yet anyway work my hamies or calfs |

You need to contact Jimmy and get some vertical leap training shoes. =P
