Hand placement on BP Bar

When you are BPing where do you keep your hands in reference to the smooth silver ring? Someone told me, when I was young, to keep my pinkies on the rings. Does it depend on how wide your shoulders are?

I have avoided these types of discussions because of the following:
I have 3 Oly bars. The bars are 42-44 lbs each. They are all 86-inches long (end to end). The smooth ring is 33-inch, 32-inch and 30-inches wide (repsctively) from center of the smooth ring to center of the other smooth ring. The first bar is a Hampton bar and the other two are CAP/Standard bars. So when you use the smooth ring as a reference point, be aware that it is likely to be some variations in the spacing of the rings (even the same manufacture has variations). It could mean the difference between your pinky and your middle finger.

Where people normally put their pinkies, I put my pointing fingers.

Anyway, on a standard bar, I put my pinkies on/right next to the smooth rings.
