Unsolicited advice from Personal Trainer
I was doing seated calf raises with about 110 on it when a trainer came up to me and asked if he could show me how to "blast my calves". not being rude i said sure and he dropped the weight to about 40. he told me to sit straight up, chest high, head up, ass tucked in, eyes forward, you know giving all those instructions about your posture up until the point where you feel so damn awkward you really can't concentrate on the weight. He said it really wasn't about the weight but how slow you did it. Now while i believe the whole time under tension thing, i believe that the weight still can't be so light which the 40 was. i don't mind advice but when it seems like bullshit i do.

He's trying to start a conversation so he can show you how awesome he is at training people. It's a sales tactic. Next time if you're happy with what you are doing simply either ignore him or ask him a bunch of really complicated questions about calf anatomy or physiology. He'll feel like an idiot and probably walk away.

how much does posture really affect a seated calf raise? Does it activate another head of the calf or sumthin I don't know about?
