    Morning Quicky

I was wondering if it is significantly beneficial to do a few sets of crunches and push ups immediately upon waking up? Then carry on with the rest of my day/workout as normal. I guess it couldn't hurt but I was wondering if anyone else does this and what others think.
After almost 2 weeks... I am back and better than ever.

its not god for your heart. when you get up, you are in a dehydrated state and your blood is very viscous. your heart is going to work ultra-hard to pump the blood around.

Where did you hear/read that? I've never heard such a thing.

Also, to the original poster, what do you hope to gain by doing this?

Just get me going, get my body ready for the intense shit ahead. PLUS, help me burn off my breakfast due to the increased heart-rate.

If you are concerend with burning off breakfast, you should ensure it is a healthy one with a good source of protein and good carbs etc... and increase your cardio if you're concerned with fat levels and modify your diet to a healther one.

If I eat any healthier, I'll be eating tofu. I am just wanting to maximize my workout, and that is why I asked the question I asked.

haha, hey if anything u want to do immediately after waking up, run a mile or 2 very moderately. I think it is way more beneficial and way more easier at least for me.

You shouldn't do cardio straight from waking up as it is catabolic. If you want to do this, I understand you should dose up on BCAAs before you go out.

If the blood is more viscous, it means the molecules flow past one another more easily. Wouldn't that equate to less work for the heart?

Viscosity actually refers to a resistance in flow. He was right. More viscosity = more resistance = more work.

Funny thing i read at a buddies house in a Mens Health Mag dated back to 2000. It suggested to do crunches 15 minutes after waking up. Saying that your body is already dehydrated and your musscles are already contracted and by working the abdominals first thing in the morning would greater produce that six pack everyone wants. I laughed at the article afterwards.

so r u saying i shouldnt do cardio in the morning either?? because whenever i get the chance ive been waking up early and doing 30 mins of pretty intense cardio to burn fat before breakfast. i read that its a prime time to do cardio for fat burning because your body has been dormant and uses primarily fat stores for energy..

this is a well-known fact. if you go and read a journal article on Cardiovascular diseases. it will tell you that blood Viscosity is one of the major contributors of having a heart attack for the elderlys. This explains why people are more likely to have heart attacks in the morning, just after wake-up.

if you are young and fit, chances are you wont die from exercise in the morning, particularly just after waking up, but it is definitely not a physiologically ideal time to exercise.

i personally think going for a light jog after u wake up is PERFECTLY fine. Also running/cardio is also fine on training days as long as u can handle it and doesnt make u so tired.

See, right now, my trainging days are focused ON cardio. I gained alittle too much weight in my "dormant" days if you will, and right now I am cutting all that shit off before I hit the weights like Whitney hit's the coke. Regardless, I am going to stick to my plan of doing cardio 7 days a week as much as my body will let me that day and doing light weight training 5 - 6 days a week just to gain alittle lean muscle until I cut the fat off.
After almost 2 weeks... I am back and better than ever.

weight training is going to help you burn more fat than cardio.

    you need a balanced program.

i agree with p funkadelic. Also cardio 7 days a week??? that is too much i say at LEAST get one day of full rest.
try something like 30-45 mins lifting, than running 1-5 miles, depending on your physique. and the day su dont lift u can run extra.

Id assume pushups/crunches were done in the morning to help you wake up and get blood flowing. Other than that, I cant see it being beneficial at all. If youre really eating as healthy as you say, then this would be a waste of time and effort, unless its just to get some energy going.
