BODYBUILDING SUPPLEMENTS
High Quality Supplements For Bodybuilders and Athletes. www.ironmaglabs.com
OK, So I got myself a home gym now I would like suggestions for any equipment I may need, perhaps something that as been beneficial to yourself, please pass coment.

I will list what I have so far and what I'm planning to pruchase:

bench, stationary bike, 2 standard barbells, an olympic bar, dumbbells, squat rack, puch bag attached to pull-up bar (hopefully, may not be possible), floor mat, stationary ball (big, inflatable one), stretch bands, soft pillow (for soft tissue work), 2x20's plates, 2x15's, 2x10's, 2x5's. (that weight is very challenging for now, eventually I will buy some more 10's and 20's.)

I did some deadlifts and bench just trying it out yesterday, and I got those blisters on my hands like mad, should I wear gloves I read it is best not too? Do I need a belt, for heavy squats, deds, bench, rows etc? Also, I will be working out without footwear so I don't tread muck in. Is this safe?

Thanks, Raz

PS. workout coming soon

Cow Pimp - If you don't train your legs you're a dumbfuck. I'm not going to elaborate on why. If it isn't obvious to you, then you deserve the marginal results that you get and hideously unbalanced/injury prone physique that you will build.

Sounds like you have enough stuff to make some good progress if you approach your workouts correctly.

I would just get used to not wearing gloves as one day you might lose them or forget to take them to the gym and you will suffer. Your hands will get used to the pain and tuffen. This is up to you though.

Always wear footwear when you are training with weights!

I disagree with that. Squag doesn't and neither did Arnold.

I do recall that guy sayin he doesn't wear footwear and a few ppl sayin that barefoot workouts rule. thanks about the gloves, I'l keep at it without them. What about a lifting belt? When I Squat and Deadlift my lower back burns like hell, would a belt help? How about straps too will they help out in anyway?

additional things I thought of:

Kettlebells for more functional work, any good these things? Worth the money?

On the topic of functional lifting, I'm gonna try and get hold of some kegs and sangbags, for some GPP work on my off days during the summer.

Posters!!! I also need some cool posters to stick up on the bare walls

I also need this. I need some really great posters of Arnold, Lee Priest, and Jessica Alba.

Who knows of some really good poster sites. Most sites are too expensive.

most university's have poster fares once a semester. you can get some wall sized posters for real cheap at those.

maybe its just in canada though i have no idea about the states

I used to read misc.fitness.weights on google and there was one guy on there who would always rave on about how great kettlebells were. I've never used them myself but depending on your goals they might have a place in your training program. Might be worth having a read about them here: http://www.kbnj.com/

A couple good poster sites by the way: www.pushposters.co.uk and www.allposters.com I think there are some weightlifting ones on there, definatly on the allposters one There Uk based aswell so delivery will be cheap for you.

things that you need? or things that will allow you to do more stuff?

as far as things you need, its as simple are an oly bar, weights, a rack and maybe a bench.

things that i would have in my own gym that you haven't listed. a dip station, weight belt, bumper plates, trap bar, log barbell or w/e its called, kettlebells, safety squat bar and a buffalo bar (the thicker one, forget the name.)

Yanick thanks so much!

Comments on what you listed: I would love a dip/pull up station, atm it may consume too much space or even worse not fit in the garage plus these things are pretty pricey and is it needed that much? Weight belt - Am I missing much? Convince me If you dare! (-: I may be buying an Olympic set, quite expensive but worth the doh, including bar and bumper plates. trap bar I'l look into. Kettlebells I'm re-searching. buffalo bar-price/pro's/con's?

Additional things; I got myself a wrist curler/strengthener. pretty damn handy, only 10kg added and it gave my forearms an immense pump. Head harness are not too expensive may pick up one of those.

Still no feedback on the gloves/belt! I may just wipe my arse with them!

dips/pull ups are a staple in my routine almost as important to me as bench/squat. but thats a personal preference as i just want to be able to bang out a set of dips with a hundred added lbs on me. i love seeing big guys doing calisthenics like they are easy.

weight belt, i meant the one with a chain that allows you to add weight to bw exercises. you could always ghetto rig something or hold a db but as you get stronger a weight belt becomes a necessity.

oly lifting is that i personally enjoy doing and if my situation allowed me to create my own gym a lifting platform and bumper plates would be the core of my gym.

buffalo bar is just a thicker bar. once again you can ghetto rig something onto a standard bar to make the handle thicker so its not really necessary.

i just want to re-iterate that everything i mentioned is not really necessary but allows you to do different things and keep your training interesting. if you are just looking for some basic stuff to get in good shape and stay there, there is not point in sinking a boatload of money into a home gym. all you really need is a bar, weight, a bench and a squat rack/cage. i just have a vision of a perfect home gym in my head that i will build someday when i have my own house.

Agreed on most of that! Excellent input, much appreciated!!!

Oooooo, invite me to your gym, this is nearly my idea of heaven too. We both have a vision, let's head for the light little buddy!!!

First, please tell me would you purchase gloves and/or a belt for your gym?
