Deadlifting
hi im currently doing a 3x full body workout.... on my deadlift i was wondering if theres any difference between lifting the weight from the floor or lifting the weight from the first rung on a power rack? am i losing some of the benefit by lifting from the few inches higher? i am doing this because its quicker and easier to change the weight plates and i feel more comfortable not having to go right down....
any help greatly appreciated |

The more range of motion the better the gains. You should be deadlifting from the floor, unless you are training for better lock-out strength.

I don't get it? You mean you are taking the bar off the rack, but every rep after that touches the floor (until the last, where you replace the bar)? Or, are you doing RDLs?

SOunds to me like he is going down to the rack (not the floor) on each rep. I toyed with this because my gymn isnt on a solid floor and I was worried about putting them down to hard. In the end I plumped for a tough wood base to distribute the weight. Either way - I think if it makes a big difference for comfort then do it off the rack - just be aware that you're not getting quite so much ROM and you might struggle if you ever need to 'show what you can do' off the floor in the future. P-funk and the PTs will tell you if you're gonna damage yourself that way but I'd be surprised.

Do both. I like rack pulls a lot, you can use heavier weights and stay safe with the limited ROM. I got some nice hypertrophy in the erectors and traps from doing them regularly. But you should do deads from the floor too, to keep the ROM....hell even doing them standing on a box to get an even further ROM is good. I think I saw that P-funk does snatch grip deads on a box, which is one tought movement that'll pack on some meat.
