has anyone heard of them? basically you do a pull up and touch your chest to the bar(or almost) and then let go and reverse grip to a chin up and chin your chest to the bar and keep switching it up. supposed to build pulling power.

yah. you let go and quickly grab the bar with your grip reversed. and do it again.
Uhm, is there downward movement before/during/after this letting go action?
really, when am I supposed to be switching my grip? Bottom or top of the pull/chin up?
if its plyometric, then at the top, so you have to pull up hard and fast to give yourself time.

Clap pullups they are otherwise known as I believe.

I agree... About 6 months after I started training, I came down a little too hard at the end of a pullup, and it felt funny for a while.... A week or two later, I ended up straining it and had to do physical therapy for a couple months, and I had to go REAL light on any pressing movements for quite a while.




Exactly. And that was just an isolated incident. If you're doing something worse than that, over and over again...well...it doesn't take much to figure out the risks there.
I think if a plyometric pulling movement is needed, i'd do fast light rowing of some kind instead.

It is called a switch grip pull-up, I seen it on rosstraining. You pull yourself up explosively, and quickly switch your grip.
Doesn't fuck your shoulder up if you can catch yourself. Great explosive pulling movement, but it's hard as hell. Why would you use it though, are you into some explosive sport?


I think risk > reward, especially if you dont have good base levels of strength.

I don't believe that it is truly a plyo pullup as you're not really doing the eccentric that quickly to elicit the myotatic stretch reflex as you do on true plyo's. The downward motion is quick but under control, the upward motion is just very explosive to allow time to either a)switch grips or b)clap your hands together.
