Did I get stuck with a small physique?

I'm 16, and I came into my grade weighing 100 pounds. I joined weight lifting class, and now I weigh 122. I eat a lot more, and I have become highly interested. However, my question to you is...why do I look like a twig? If I look at myself from the side view from the mirror, I'm really skinny. I've also noticed that my brother and dad have a wider body. What I mean is, when I'm walking behind them, they're both wide. My brother didn't really get the wide effect until his senior year, so I'm still waiting, but I drink milk like mad, and I always have my entire life. Is there anyway I can get the wide effect?

P.S. My brother didn't do didly squat in high school.

Because milk is the secret to pro bodybuilding?

You're just the product of bad diet + training. Probably genetics a little aswell. How tall are you?

My advice if you want to get into training, get bigger etc would be to read the stickied topics (the ones permenantly at the top) of the training forum, and the diet + nutrition forum.

    Read them a lot.

    Sort out your diet.

Put together a training program for us to look at here. A few tips:

    - Stick to compound movements (Squat, Deadlifts, Bench Press, Overhead Press, Rowing, Chin Ups/Pull Ups, Dips, Lunges etc.)

    - 4 to 6 exercises should be enough for anybody.

    - Choose a 3 day a week split (full body, upper/lower, push/pull/legs) with a rest day in between each.

Concentrate on the basics, eat like crazy (the diet + nutrition forum will tell you the RIGHT things to eat) and you'll be fine.

The members here are always more than happy to help out as long as you put the effort in to read the information already posted here. If you put some work in and come up with an improvement to your diet plan, and a decent program, we'll be more than happy to help you pull it all together.

    Welcome to IM, dude.

shane. I was in a similar boat to you. Very skinny, but already reached 6' in high school, ate shit food, played a lot of sport. Didn't fill out till 20+.

Work out, eat well (read all the stuff in the diet section) and wait. It will come. Just takes time. I'm now a personal trainer helping smaller guys get up to my size.

Good luck mate, and dont stress. You're only 16, and already put on 22lbs, good work.

How large are your wrists? That should tell you if you have a small physique or not.
    No Milk, no.
Milk is for babies. When you grow up, you have to drink beer.

If youre dad and brother are 'wide' chances are you will be too. Just be patient and let nature take it's course. Also, eating well and training hard wont hurt either!

If you're 16 nows a good time to start learning proper eating habits. I started a bit earlier than you and believe me, it was hard but now i can't help but eat fairly healthy, balanced, and more frequent meals. It just feels natural to eat egg whites, whole wheat, chicken and olive oil instead of bagel with cream cheese for breakfast.

That is a good indication - which is a shame because I have wrists like a little girl - which is why I dont look that 'big' - but hey ho its about strength and definition not size (thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it!)
I'm 34 - when am I officially an old fart?

At 122 lbs there is no way you can look like anything else apart from a twig (unless your a dwarf?) im 190lbs and im somewhat twig like.

I started off like you though, now would be a great time to learn about your diet and training, you'll thank yourself in a few years. A lot of people make the mistake of having bad diet + training for the first year or more of their workout career.

You've put on 22lbs though which is good, it sounds like genetics arent on your side so your going to have to work hard to see really good results, your metabolism is probably very high also.

You might want to post your diet + training routine here for more help
