You can also buy the "olympic dumbells"(i dont know) where you can put however much weight you want on there like the bar.. they cost 39.99 at sports authority, come with those heavy clips so if you use the clips they come with you might have add say 2-4 extra pounds when youre figuring out how much you want to lift
