Why, sprints of course. Not only do they help with overall acceleration and speed, they also help lose some bf while maintaining lbm.

Variations, variations, variations. It will allow you to hit sprinting from different angles. Here are some suggestions:
The 40 yard sprint, just as you would for the actual timed event
10 yard sprints, working on form and initial acceleration... jump is huge
Longer sprints, such as 100 meter dash/quarter mile sprints (1 lap around the football field track).

Work on sprinting 1,000 yards in one effort. Run X amount of 10's, X amount of 20's, X amount of 40's, X amount of 50's, etc, until you reach 1,000.

1000 yards seems like too much to me. I would stick too doing no more than 40yard sprints as you wont be runnnign more than 40yrds on the field. After my senior season during the summer my 40 went from 5.1 horrible for a linebacker to a respectable 4.83 and i eventually got it down to 4.75 year after that. You have to STRETCH workout for explosiveness and power in the gym and incorporate ployometrics into your training program. Start off with 10yrds,20yrds,40yrds 5 sets of each 30secs inbetween. Work your reps up week by week. Goodluck mayn. Workout hard and youll be bebopping fools onthe field next year.

Creatine Ethyl Ester + Beta Alanine..

Work Squats: ATG's, Hack machine, Work calfs.

Myofascial release and stretching of hips (flexors, piraformix), quads and hams.

Buy a parachute device for 80 bucks or so and use it everyday.

Read about how to sprint properly (start..lean..finish)

And if you are over 16% BF then go on a cut.

I think you mis-understood what he is saying. He is not suggesting to run 1000 yrd sprints, but to run sprints of varies distances that add up to a 1000 yards.
Try to get a few receivers and backs to run with you. Or if you have a healthy dog, take it for a run. The start is crucial, explode explode explode.
