Planning a second 5x5 cycle
I am about to begin week 4 of a basic starr 5x5 dual factor program. I was thinking about doing a one or two week deload, then another volume phase, but I was thinking about switching the exercises around, using the wednesday exercises on monday and friday and vice versa.
so it would look like this: monday deadlifts 5x5 OH press 1x5 Chinups 1x5 wednesday squats 5x5 bench press 5x5 rows 5x5 friday deadlifts 1x5 OH press 5x5 chinups 5x5 I was thinking this would be a good idea if you continually run 5x5s throughout the year, it would make for a nice balance between vertical and horizontal movements. A whole 24 week cycle could look like: weeks 1-4 5x5 horizontal emphasis weeks 5-6 deload weeks 7-10 5x5 vertical emphasis weeks 11-12 deload weeks 13-16 horizontal emphasis weeks 17-18 deload weeks 19-22 vertical emphasis weeks 23-24 deload Is it something that makes sense, or is it just better to stick with the basic program back to back? |
