Back Training
Hi all
I was reading the Arnie Encyclopidia the other day and i was looking up exercises for the back. In the book Arnie says for middle back thickness do rows with a wide grip, for outer back development do close grip rows. Today i was reading Flex magazine and one of the bodybuilders says the opposite, what do you all think about this? |

Inner and outer back don't mean much. You'll never get a thick, but not wide back. Your back just grows. You might be able to put a little emphasis on some area, but other than that it doesn't mean crap.
So just do rows and switch up the grip. |

I myself lack in back width and i have found that doing close grip pulldowns or chins has given me more width rather than doing wide grip.

Just vary the grips you use. I like to do so.
Going wider should involve more posterior delt and scapular retractor action, as the scapula can more fully adduct and extension happens on the transverse plane. Using a closer grip you will be extending the should on the sagittal plane. |
