    Maintaining size?

What does it take to maintain size? Today I went to the gym to my favorite muscle (chest) and...it was a joke. I don't know why I was tired but I totally dragged a** the whole workout. I did 2 sets of 315lbs on flat (on the 2nd set i stripped it to 225 right after and repped a few out immediately after), and just felt crappy. I went to the incline machine and put 3 plates on each side, and did 3 sets for a few reps. Did about 1 set of light flies, then left. Everything was 1/2 azzed and I didn't even really feel much of a pump.

My diet is the same as any normal day, still had PWO shake etc...What does it take to maintain your current muscle size? I only do chest once a week, so it won't get hit again til next Monday. I just feel like its going to shrink from such a bs workout. I got good sleep, I think it was just cause I had a headache and excess stress, etc.

There are so many factors that could lead to a bad day. I think you just had one.

Maintaining size is a combination of getting your cals right, and training with enough intensity to keep the muscle. Maintaining isn't too hard.

You stimulated the muscle while working out, and it sounded as thought you train with enough intensity, I really don't see why you would lose mass as long as you are eating and resting enough.

Your diet will set you free.

I hate exercise, I love training.

I honestly don't know what happened my diet is the same everyday (usually feel fine) the drive there i was pretty pumped was jamming some hardcore music, and I got there was talking to a buddy for like 10 minutes about something. Then I started, and I was just so lazy, I didn't even want to put the weight on the bar, and just felt sloppy/not into it.

Sometimes you just have bad days.

For example - last friday I went to train lower. I was feeling fairly good and wanting to train. Then my stomach started screwing with me on the way over. When I got there I took a big dump of the hershey squirts(not sure why), then I warmed up and felt fatigued. I loaded to bar for squats, did two sets and my strength wasn't where I wanted it to be, then just said "fuck it". It just wasn't happening, so I left.

Then I trained lower today and had a great strong workout.

    Sometimes it happens.

I honestly want to go back tomorrow, and nail it out...But that would probably be bad (over training)

Yeah I think it would be - you could have had a virus or anything. I wouldnt sweat it - in my view you wont lose size or strength in a week. After all you dont on your week off do you? I know it sucks but I wouldnt stress it - that might cause more problems than it cures.
I'm 34 - when am I officially an old fart?

I don't think you can truly maintain. It is a state of mind. As soon as you decide that you want to maintain, you will start melting away. Or, maybe that is just me. Does anyone else feel this way?

when is the last time you took at least a full week off from training?

do you change up your routines?

do you rotate heavy and light training days? i.e. chest heavy this week, light next week.

do you get adequate rest? i.e. 8 hours of sleep per night.

I'm with ya. I've been sick for 3 days (missed 2 workouts) and I feel like I'm at square one again.
