Weighted vests

I want to purchase a weighted vest. Does anyone here own one? I want to be able to do upside down training- handstand pushups- so I need one that would be suitable for that- I don't want it sliding off.

I like the vests that are shorter to make it easier to move and breathe especially since I want to use it to do stair sprints, pistols, pullups etc.

I think I want the vest to go up to 50 lbs, anything more than that would just crush me and be awkward to move in as I am only 165 pounds.

What do you guys/gals think of this one? http://www.weightvest.com/

Big money. Just tape plates to yourself.

I used to run up the stairs by my place carrying two 25 lb weight plates but I'm sick of always looking like a freak- hahaha. I also have done the same thing with a weighted backpack on but it's not that comfortable. They are pricey but I just want one.

I tried something like that once. Gave me bad lower back pain :/

I think I'm going to buy a cheap one that only holds 20-25 pounds and then mod some extra pockets on it to fit standard 2.5 plates. I have a friend that works at a mountain supply store so I can get my supplies of her for next to nothing. It is pretty stupid to pay $300 canadian for a vest.

I have no idea what the cost is but have you looked into scuba diving weights? Prolly pick up some used at a scuba supply shop.

I am also looking into this for weighted pushups when I don't have a partner to hold a plate/plates in place on my back

Thanks Phred, that's a great idea! I'm going to look into that.

The only one I have used that was any good was the X vest. I don't think I would necessarily pay that much for something like that, but I wouldn't by a knock-off either.

If sense were common, everyone would have it.

We have an Xvest at my gym. I have no idea how well it works for hanging upside down, but it works well for everything else that I've tried.
