squat problem
My girlfriend was trying to do squats but her knees arch to the inside when she bends her knees and her heels come off the ground. We werent using any weight on the bar. Whats the problem here and what exercises could she do to build up to squats. Shes already doing leg ext., sldl and lunges on leg day. Thanks for any help

Where is she placing the bar? Maybe it is to high up on her neck, if it is have her lower it a little. Is she keeping her back arched some and butt out? Is she looking straight ahead or even up a little? Also she needs to concentrate on pushing with the heels.

Work on form. Stretch. It takes some time.

Sounds like she needs to work on ankle and hip mobility.

My thoughts exactly.
I did the exact same thing when I started working legs. I had bad ankles from football injuries and car wrecks. I had to set 25lb plates on the floor and place my heels on the end of them. This gave me enough ROM to squat without having to lean onto my toes. After doing this for a year, I eventually increased my ROM enough to squat with good form without the plates. It might take time, but give it a shot. |

Put her in a smith machine, or use a standing calf raise machine to teach her. lots of people dont put their ass out the back, keep the body vertical, and end up in a crazy position on their toes when they get down. teach her to sit on a chair like she is squatting slowly, and get her used to having her weight balance on her feet.

weak glutes
tight calves those would be my guesses.....also probably a lack of understanding of the form. you gotta coach the shit out of the lift.

It will work, but don't let it become a crutch. She needs to be working on flexibility in the meantime so she can eventually do them without plates.
