    True bodyfat %?

How do you guys measure your bf %? I know lots of people include this stat with their profile, but where do they come up with it? I know of few people who have the chance to use the scientific method of underwater measurement. I know some people who use electronic scales that send a low voltage pulse through your feet. Then there's the retarted technique that the military has been using forever that's based on your neck and waist measurements. I recently bought this caliper gadget for $25 that's endorsed by the Bill Phillips people. Anyway, you're supposed to pinch the skin just above your right hipbone on top of the muscle tissue there. Then you look down the chart at the measurement in millimeters and your age. According to this my BF% is 5.5%. The book says that's where you are supposed to pinch, but who the hell has much fat there? What are your calculating tricks for your own BF%

Do u have the Accumeasure caliper? I think thats the one you're talking about. I have an accumeasure , but you're suppose to use three different spots. Right above your hipbone on the right side. Back of your arm . And last spot is on your back right under your bone were it sticks out. Does 5.5% seem accurate cause thats really low. You'd be very ripped at 5.5% bf.

Any accurate caliper measurement for body fat percentage should do six or seven sites all around the body, not just one or three. You also need to be trained how to pinch the skinfold properly so that you are not including the muscle underneath. Doing it yourself will never give you accurate results because you don't know where the real sites are located.

The closest accurate measure you can get is through hydrostatic weighing. If you really want to find out for sure what your BF% is contact your local college or university, they may have the equipment or know where you can get it done.

Actually, it is an accumeasure caliper. It's one of the newest ones that tell you to use this one site only. I was skeptical of this but the book goes into this detailed explanation of why. Anyway, I can't get more than 2 millimeters regardless of how I pinch it. I have done the hydrostolic method at East Carolina University a few years ago......They said it was 4.6 % at 168 lbs. I'm at 175 now with a little extra muscle but I'm not as cut as I was then. I have one of my pictures in the member's area but I can't look at it yet because I don't have 25 posts.

The difference between a 3-fold measurement and a 7-fold or 9-fold measurement is negligible.

If you measure the 3 correct folds using that caliper I will compute your bf%

The 3 sites for a male are

1)Diagonal fold on the Pec midway from the armpit to the nipple

2)vertical fold 1 inch to the right or left of the belly button.

3)vertical fold, halfway between the knee and the hip.
