    Cranium Headache from Training

    Hey all

A friend of mine has started getting a headache at the back of his head in the cranium during training. It happened a week or so ago during barbell curl HITs which debilertated him - and then this week it happened during chin ups which again brought his session to an end.

He isnt currently carrying a head cold or anything like that and he is making sure he is well hydrated prior to sessions. I just wondered if any of you guys had come across this before and had any suggestions?

    Many thanks as always!

Has he ever had this before?

    Is his diet in check?

I think his craniumache comes from trying to use big words when he didn't be using them.

It might be something to do with a nerve or something. I know that sometimes, though very rarely, some part of my body will be in pain when i attempt an awkward movement in a different part of the body.

Does he breath properly while he lifts? Holding your breath increases blood pressure a huge amount, so if it's done too much that could be an issue.
The only time it's bad to feel the burn is when you're peeing...

That's an interesting point - I believe he does - but I cant be sure. We'll check it out and come back to you on that - thanks for the input!

If he has high blood pressure already, then that can make things worse. That is why the Valsalva maneuver is contraindicated for those with hypertension.

Thanks for that cowpimp - lots to go on!

As an update - he contacted me last night to say that he got the headache after just 300 yards of light jogging for his cardio night. Makes me think its something medical maybe? I've suggested he seeks medical advice on it now as this is a new symptom. Would you agree?

I didn't even think about that. Good call though.

Yeah, tell him to see a doctor. This is something that us keyboard jockeys shouldn't be trying to diagnose, heh.

Quite right - to the docs it is. I know we shouldnt assume the role of a doc on here - but the advice that comes from experience is often helpful too so I'm really grateful to you all for chipping in! Thanks guys.
