    muscle cramps

Hey all- I was doing Leg Press last night(my last exercise for legs) and after my second set my foot TOTALLY cramped up! I literally had to take my sneaker OFF and stretch out my foot. It felt like my arch was closing in! It went away after about 10 min. needless to say I didn't complete the leg press! Any idea what the hell this could have been caused by? I didn;t drink coffee-so I know it was from to much caffeine....All opinions welcomed!!!!!!!!

Was it a one-time thing or does it occur frequently?

If you are dehydrated, muscles sometimes cramp. Stress on the muscle (foot) could induce a muscle to cramp when dehydrated. Are you drinking enough?

Or it just could have been a unique thing.

Cramps are usually due to an electrolyte imbalance.

He may have been drinking "too much" water.

I have these things happen usually when I'm doing calves. But to be honestly noticed when my diet is clean they go away. The less water I drink the more often they happen though.

Not sure if that helps any.

How far you push through that barrier is the level of intensity with which you train." -- Twin Peak

    Hi LESLIE2196,

I've always sufferred with cramping, ever since my early teens, especially during/after swimming.

Now I've got into BB I have had cramps in my hands, calves & feet. I got some advice from a chat site here in the UK, she suggested using magnesium phosphate, but didn't advise of dosage/ best time to take/ where to get it from, etc.

Other advice I got was to "warm down" correctly, especially after cycling.

However, I have been taking ZMA (got some as a freebie) for some six weeks and I haven't had any cramping for nearly a month. I have combined this with correct warming down. Maybe my improving fitness is helping & I take a multi-vitamin as well.

My theory is that it is the magnesium. Hope this helps.

Magnesium? I hate to admit it-but I don't take any vitamins at all....I know I know-STUPID. Maybe I should incorporate a multi, some magnesium, and drink much water. Thanks cult-status!

Don't drink too much or you may get hyponatremia.
