    Question Question about abs

Is it better to work your abs everyday or to give them a day off between workouts? How long should you work them for. Should you treat them like any other body part?

Depending on how hard you work them i say you can work them every other day.... if you do a lot of weighted crunches 30+ and do a few sets of different types of crunches and work the obliques hard and everything you should get a pretty good workout... you might even get sore if you work them real hard.. its hard to get your abs sore IMO

Well right now I do work them everyday. I have a nice six pack but I want them even nicer. Greedy I guess. But they never get sore for more than a few minutes. A guy at the gym to me to work them every other day and use resistance, weight. He told me to do hanging leg raises and declined crunches. What do you guys think?

yeah thats what i say.. if you work them real hard you can use a day of rest... since your 6 pack is already visible the best way to work them is with weights too make them bigger

So you are saying to give them a serious work out then a rest, so I should feel them a little sore? What do you figure a half an hour or so, hanging leg raises 3x?, declined crunches 3x?, seated weighted crunches 3x?. How does that sound?

There is no need to work your abs everyday. You should worry more about losing BF. Working them twice a week is fine. Abs come out nice once the BF is gone.

Work them on your off day and give them a good thrashing twice a week or so. No longer than 10 - 15 min. It's not worth the time.

I do 2 sets of sit ups or cable crunches on leg day.

    (that's once a week.)

Oh, and if i feel too tired too after squats and stiffs, sometimes i don't.

I'm with TJohn and TCD, once or twice a week is just fine.

I don't see how you could possible work them every day and expect them to fully recover.

I've actually seen people wearing those silly electric shock belts around their abs. How can people actually fall for that shit? The vast majority of the American public is so ignorant when it comes to their health that its no wonder that these companies make millions on these useless products.

    I agree with the Chicken!

People do too much ab work. Every movement you make throughout the day involve your abs. Not to mention the amount of stress placed on the abs during weight training. A PL or strength athlete may need more direct ab work to help prevent injury. But from a BB's perspective 1 or 2 sets of direct ab work on leg day each week should suffice.

I do one super set of hanging leg raises / Swiss ball crunches on leg day. Like the Chicken if I don’t feel like doing them I have no problem skipping them. Abs are the only body part I don’t keep a log on.

To refuse to learn anything that could prove beneficial to yourself is a working definition of stupid!

High-intensity training is going all-out, not almost all out. It is taking one set to one's absolute limit, not almost to the limit. It is using whatever equipment’s available. It is not the words of two or three men, but a commitment to work as hard as possible while in the gym without socializing, resting excessively between sets, or falling prey to the 'this isn't going to work so I'll copy the star' attitude"

I agree with the above opinions supporting once or twice a week.

Sometimes we forget a simple fact: that a muscle is a muscle is a muscle - they all need to be trained the same way to respond. Because one is smaller or bigger doesn't change the fact it is still a muscle. Train it like your back or arms, and make sure to hit all the areas so that you get proper development.

Also, you may find your squat and/or deadlift progression being hampered if your abs still haven't recovered if you're doing them too often. Don't forget abs are core in these movements.
