    Incline Dumbell vs. Incline Barbell

No, this is not a post about which exercise best targets the 'upper chest', but a post simply asking which exercise you prefer and why.

    "Both" is an unacceptable answer

I mix it up usually, but I don't do any incline work atm.

I prefer the barbell (I usually prefer the barbell) for hyperthrophy and strength.

I generally only do incline if I have a second day of push that week. And I do like to mix them up but to answer the question I prefer the barbell.

I prefer DB, but it is getting harder to get them up into a starting position so I have been using BB.

Seems like alot of guys don't do inclines. Why is that?

I primarily do them over flat work because of a shoulder injury.

On my last program I generally did inclines. I just like to switch it up whenever I can.

Flat BP > Incline BP. More weight. More natural movement.

I normally do DB because the incline bench at my gym is set really far behind your head and it is hard to unrack the bar without a spotter and I lift alone. The only other option is to use the smith machine. Would it be more benifical to do the exercise with DB or on the smith?

yeah, with dumbells you get a better range of motion and you can strech the peck at the bottom of the rep. the problem is getting the dubells above your shoulders each set. I usually put them on my knees and then use my arms and legs to get them up.

I like dumbells better for incline and flat. I don't think they can be beat for chest hypertrophy. More weight on a bar doesn't mean your chest is doing more work. The best grip to work the chest on a bar is wider than most people do, and usually is not the grip you can press the most weight with so won't be used by most due to ego. I'm guilty too. Better range of motion with dumbells too. With practice you can press almost as much with dumbells as you can with a barbell.
