    Barbell Bent Over Row

    Hi,

Could someone instruct me on how to do a BB bentover row like the one in this animation: Barbell Bent-over Row

There are just so many different animations/instructions on the web.

I'm not sure exactly to where to pull the bar (waist? chest?). At what angel should I have my back?

When I do this lift, it seems I feel it too much in my biceps and not enough in my back. Is it too much weight possibly?

    Thank you for your help.

Do it just like in that animation/description. You should pull the weight towards the bottom of your rib cage. If you feel it too much in your biceps you are probably not staying bent over enough or are probably pulling the weight too much towards your chest.

You could also do the exercise with a EZ Curl bar.

Pulling it towards your chest will involve more upper back work (rear delts etc.).

Pulling it towards your abs will involve more mid back work, this is usually an easier way to do it.

The most hardcore way to do it is bending your back to a 90° corner with the floor and lifting the weight from the floor to the lower chest (just below the nipples).

Ergo, there are multiple ways to perform the exercise.

You can pull to a variety of positions using a variety of grips and grip widths. It will change the emphasis of the musculature involved significantly. Just remember to focus on retracting your shoulder blades and "pulling with your elbows" to make sure you use your scapular retractors.

Err I'm not good at describing movements in English. Your back should be like in the vid, horizontal to the floor and at a 45° corner with your bend legs (would be a 90° corner if you kept your legs straight like in SLDLs).

Not sure about "easier," but different nonetheless.

A Yates row is more natural to me AND I can lift more weight.

However, ever since my back problem, I believe Yates was out of the question. I wonder...if making my back more parallel to the floor vs. Yates, if that is less stressful on the spine?
