    Overtraining?

How can u tell if ur overtraining ur muscles? I work out 1-2 muscles per day and it takes me like an hour to hour and a half, and i work out 5 days a week. Ive read that doing 1 to 2 muscles per day will make ur muscles sore for more days than doing a full body since more than likely ur training them more, but my muscles are sore for like 4-5 days or so. Any input would be nice since Overtraining can be catabolic. Thanks

This is a loaded question. The short answer is that if you are not making any gains towards your goals (strength, size, endurance, pick your goal) then overtraining is possibly occuring. Soreness does not equate to overtraining. Generally you need to look as many factors. If you are working more than 12 sets per muscle group per session and/or longer than 90 minute workouts, 7 days per week - you could be overtraining. It depends on your body and your overall condition (including your age). Your body and your mind need rest. So working out 1 or 2 muscles up to 90 minutes 5 days a week in the long run could lead to overtrianing. Are you still making progress? Do you get sick or tired often? Do you look forward to working out or is it a chore? Remember yo need to consider the mental as well as the physical when considering overtrianing. These are just some of the symptoms of overtraining.

Personally I would not workout more than 4 times per week and do my best to keep the workouts under 60 minutes. But that is me at 49.

well, when i go work out, it doesnt feel like a chore since i like working out, alot of the times while im working out and i feel a good nice burn i often smile alot, and i feel great and smile (literally smile) after a work out too so i wouldnt say that mentally im tired. when it comes to gains, well, i recently measured my arms (biceps and triceps) and its 14 inches, and im pretty sure it wasnt like that before. I havent been sick in literally years so... is it safe to say that im not overtraining or is there more?

It does not sound like you are overtraining. You are the best monitor of that. Not to get to worked up over unless you have some of the symptoms of overtraining. Remember, just because someone says "hey I see the way you WO and you are overtraining." Does not mean they know what they are talking about. You know your body better than anyone else can. The more you WO the more you will know when (or if) you are overtraining.
