its something outrageous like 20-30% more with the suits

powerlifting is as cool as roshambo, it makes you feel like a man but at the end of the day you look like an idiot

    that sounds insane,

is that with suits alone, or it is with knee wraps, belt, monolifts and twenty other spotters?

This place isn't suited to have this arguement(no pun intended). Wow actually, pun intended, it totally works.

Anway. There aren't any PL-ers here who use lift suited to defend reasons for using gear. This thread is super biased.

is the suit for safety? after seeing a guy's butt turned wrong side out while lifting on ogrish.com i'd say better to look like an idiot than end up injured. i got a hernia after Tyler was born simply pulling a picnic table out of the sun. it was so tiny it healed on it own but it hurt like hell.

the bags are funny. my kids used to take bags like that and instead of a hole in the middle they'd put one on each side and pull the handles over their shoulders. i thought the guy was doing that. i never heard og a suit you needed a shoe horn to get on.

Don't look back ~ You're not going that way!

Yeah, there is this radio interview I listened to with Dave Tate talking about it. I'll see if I can find it, not sure if I will though.

    It's pretty subjective too.

It may not convince any of you guys, maybe move you a little farther to their side of the spectrum.

Anyway, yeah, I'll see if I can find it.

But let me get this basic point in there -

People CHOOSE to compete with OTHERS who compete in suited events. They also have raw events. It isn't like you have to go raw against a suited lifter.

Off the top of my head I'd say because it helps add poundage if you train with it properly, the majority of powerlifters use gear, so you almost have to if you want to be competitive, and there are very few "raw" only powerlifting federations. Some federations have "unequipped" divisions, however there are usually very few lifters in that division.

    Here is the interview.

He talks about it a little after the half way mark. The whole thing is interesting, though.

I think the IPF is much better than most of the other well recognized leagues out there. They don't allow beyond the very lowest level of gear, which doesn't add a whole lot to the lifter's total, but does help protect them from injury. You'll also notice that if you watch any of their meets, the judges are WAY more strict, particularly with respect to the squat.

With that said, that's why I like the deadlift a lot. Suits don't add a whole lot of weight to this number, and you can't skimp on depth and get lax judges to light you in like you can with a squat.

the IPF only allows single ply, but even then, the technology's improved so much that some of the single plys today add a lot of poundage.

This is how i feel. I dont see the point of a suit, but if theres not an unfair advantage given because of wearing it then i guess its okay.

I guess its kinda like steroids. If youve reached your natural potential and still want to go further, then why not?

Powerlifters with excessive gear looking like idiots. Bodybuilders looking like red monsters on steroids.

I prefer the days when Arnold's physique was the rolemodel and powerlifters hardly used any gear.
