    Foot Fracture

    K, I've fractured my foot.
I dont kn ow what I am to do, the doctor says i cant even go to the gym because she thinks that I got the fracture form going to the gym to much.

But i dont think it's that bad. Like if i go on the stupid god damn elliptical my foot doesnt hurt, or when I spin. And the only thing i cant really do with weights is squat or lunge or blah blah shit like that.

Do you think it'd be ok if i worked out "lightly" like i have been doing panzy exercises, or do you think i should just stay off of it completely.

Take a full week off at least I'd say. How long do you have to rest according to the doc?

6-8 weeks. I cant go 6-8 weeks without exercise. I'll feel fat and get depressed. I've tried taking time off but even if i take time off from the gym, I still walk everywhere i go, and I serve people, so I'm on my foot anyway. haha iw ish i could have fractured my hand or something instead

I suppose after a week you could do stuff that doesn't hurt at all.

But my opinion is not a professional opinion.

Just want to clear this up -

Are you absolutely certain that you fractured your foot? Did the doctor order and x-ray and actually locate a fracture? Sometimes general practioners(which I am assuming you saw) will throw out diagnoses without proof.

Also, you said something before about having crappy worn out shoes. Running in crappy shoes is not a good idea. Get some new shoes before you start running again that could be how the problem started.

Yah i went and I got an X-ray (which, might i add was a real joy because i had to wait an hour and a half for an X-ray that took about 2 minutes)
It is a fractur on my fourth metacarpal (they cant out a cast on it because it is in the middle of my foot, plus it isnt a break, so you know..)
And the shoes, it's not so much that they are crappy, just that i've like, ran them out. I get a cheque this week so you can bet I'm going to get a new pair. Same with my casual shoes, I walk so much they are worn out too.

Essentially, there is nothing they can do about it. If it gets bad enough then they'd have to preform surgery...but I'm not going to let it get to that point. but at the same time i dont want to be sitting at home watching the CSI: Miami marathon every ngiht on A&E.

Swimming would require me to point my toe, which hurts.

Swimming if fun, but that's a lot of kicking that foot through a lot of resistance.

There are train aids that you can get for swimming. Floats that you put between your legs so they are stationary and you can work on your strokes.

putting something between my legs? now theres something i can do.

    /note sarcasm

Iono I'll give it a try. But i'm still skeptical of swimming...I did it competetively for a bout 4 years and it skulpted my legs more then anything. my arms didnt even get that much shape.

Most of us get enough work on our stroke without the aid of tools.

Swimming longer distances competitively requires very little leg work.

Don't wish things you don't really want, the devils have ears.

Be careful and try not to overcompensate to protect your injured foot and overburden other part of your body while exercising.
It will increasing the chance for not only inviting other injuries but also acquiring bad forms or physical habits which would be hard to fix for a long time.

Moderate exercise like swimming will certainly help your blood circulation thus needed recovery,
Just take it easy, for overly taxing your body might delay the very recovery of your injured foot.
