Pronator teres syndrome??
Does anyone have any experience with this? It is inflammation of the pronator teres muscle which allows you to pronate your arm [turning arms so that the palms are up and then facing the floor]. Anyway, I have finally found out what's wrong with my right arm. Here's the kicker = I can do dumbell curls all day long with no pain. What I absolutely cannot do is barbell curls which I really want to do. It hurts like a kidney stone or something. I had a steroid shot yesterday which has to go into the most tender part of the muscle/tendon area. It hurts is all I know to say but it has felt much better today. He told me it may take a week for the full results to be noticed since we don't know just how inflamed it is. If anyone has had experience with this, please chime in. Is there anything else I can do? I generally use lite weights with alot of reps which does not bother me at all as long as I stick with dumbells. I may have to stick with this but I miss being able to do barbell curls. I guess it's the angle of the arm or something. Anyway, if anyone has any knowledge/experience please let me know. I am praying this shot does the trick to reduce the inflammation. Thanks.

why did you get inflamed in the first place? Do you sit at the computer for long hours of the day (with your arm in a pronated state)? This would cause the muscles to be exposed to inflamation due to overuse.

If you google it [pts], it has to do with the median nerve being cutoff somehow which is much the same as carpel tunnel except this is in my elbow and forearm. The head of the tendon is close to the elbow and the ulner nerve [which runs on the underside of the elbow] so when I pronate my arm in a certain position, it causes pressure on the nerve which causes the pain. There are a couple of nice articles about it online and the treatment of choice is a cortisone shot. If conservative treatment does not help, then surgery has to be done to relieve the pressured area. I decided to post on the forum to see if anyone has had this and what the outcome has been. ![]() |

I have never worked with anyone with the problem before, although I do know what it is.

I'd stay away from barbell curls, eventhough I have no idea what your problem is. Dumbell curls are just as good.
What is it with everyone doing barbell curls when they hurt like a bitch anyway? ![]() |
