Do some weighted pullups. Buy you a dip belt can get one for about 35 bucks or so.

Also, I found heavy ass lat pulldowns helped a lot. 8 reps x 6 sets, varied grips. But as DD pointed out weighted pullups seems the best.

Keep doing them! Do them a few times a week, I have been workin on pullups for about 2 months or so now, and when I first started could only do about 2 but I can now do 5-6. Do them often and do different variations of them, like chin ups/ pullups/ towel pullups/ v-bar...

When you can't achieve a good rep, after your 8 or so, do some negatives. Also, try some weighted negatives. I got a lot better at pulls and chins doing static holds for as long as possible.

Do you have access to a climbing gym? Honestly, get on that shit if you do. NOTHING I know of, aside from doing a load of pullups all day, will help you more.

I've also had success in doing endurance training with pullups. Get on a pullup machine, reduce the weight you're pulling, and do a bunch. I would do sets of 100 or so. Kinda boring, but it worked.

yes. negative only pullups will increase your back strength to an enormous degree, far faster than anything else, in my opinion.

thats how i went from 0-25pullups over the past 6 months. also, partials are supposed to help...

ex: do as many going half way down (or 1/4 the way) as you can, rest one minute, then do as many as you can again... etc.. as you get stronger, increase the range of motion.

pullups come quick.

I've gone from 60 pound negative pullups (around my waist) to 100 pound negative pullups while adding a few pounds to my frame. This is a full range exercise, while increasing my tension time (7 reps at 9 seconds per negative rep). Negative only training blows your strength through the roof.

And despite what my fitness manager at 24 hour fitness believes, these gains correspond with the concentric (positive) portion of the lift. That means if you increase your strength in negatives, it will have an equal increase for the positive. I don't have any idea why more people don't utilize this style of training.

I should mention these gains were inside the span of 6 weeks.

Can you give me an example of what you were doing to increase your pullups so much? 25 pullups is insane, I want to do that.

Like how many sets, reps, all negatives or just some negatives... just give me an example workout you used. Thanks

I'd be interested to see exactly what you were doing too Duncan.

I do my best to focus on the task at hand, and give 100% in what I'm doing at the time. Nothing else matters except the task at hand.

What I hate about negatives is that I feel it more in the biceps for the most part, even when concentrating on my back.

you really ought to look at the positive of the negatives. if you only look at the negative of the negative you're really looking at the positive, and it's not a negative at all.
