Get lean without a gym.
Whats up all. since january i have been on the right track for weight loss. I have lost a little over 20 lbs, and im eating very clean and taking it slow. Im also doing cardio 4-5 times a week (alternating between joggin, sprinting, basketball with the boys, football etc.)
My question is, is it possible to get lean without the use of a gym? What i mean is, ive lost weight and i can see it (makes me feel good) however, i am still... well, soft. I want to get rid of my love handles(they slightly stick out at my gut) and my man boobs. now i know that their is no way to spot reduce fat, its an overall process. But will doing twisting exercises, jackknives, and lots of exercises on my midsection have any effect on my midsection? the gym is ideal, but im saving for shcool next year and i really dont have the money to do that. What exercises(if any) could i do to help reduce that "soft" look and let me get leaner and stronger. Also, Is it possible to get considerable results just using bodyweight exercises? I mean, i know about pushups, situps and stuff like that. but how would i train my shoulders, back, legs, calves, bi's, etc... Is it possible to develop such a routine without weights and more importantly, is it worthwhile? I know id obviously see results, but i dont want to get to my goal weight of 190 and have lost 10 lbs of muscle. ] Has anyone been through the same workout (just bodyweight exercises)? if so, what are your results like?

The most overused phrase here ... do a search of the forums here. There are tons of ways to get toned and strong without a gym and they have most likely all been covered here.
BTW, good job on the weight loss. Keep up the effort, you body will love you for it. ![]() |

As long as you got somewhere to run outside cardio isn't a problem.

Being lean is mostly about diet and burning more calories than you consume so yes, you can get really lean without a gym. You can get reasonably strong and big with just body weight exercises too. If you want to get huge, you will need weights at some point but if your goal is to have a lean, athletic, movie-star type of body, then yes, it can be done with diet, cardio and body weight exercises.

I think getting lean without the gym would be too boring.
The gym serves as a motivator for me. When i go there and hear weights clanging, people grunting and breathing hard, and when i see people literally in pain to get their max weight...I feed off of that If i did exercise in my basement I'd get bored so fast
You know, the Nazis had pieces of flair that they made the Jews wear.

Invest in a squat rack/bench, pull up bar, some plates and a bar or two. For 250 dollars (including plates) you can do everything you need to add muscle.
Minus that, body weight exercises are good and you can always get something to add weight. Sprinting, sprinting, sprinting will get you lean and increase muscle.

stay active all day.
walk to the store, work hard, go hang out, do house chores.......limit yourself to sitting doing nothing (includes watching tv, computer) to less than 1 hour a day. staying active while eating sloppy and not working out will cut fat much quicker than just eating clean working out 1 hour a day and being lazy. * im an ex-lazy SOB. combine staying active with a pretty good diet + a good workout routine, and in 2 months, alot can be done.
I love dog meat.

All the great compound exercises can be done with that equipment. If the weather was better over here, id still be working out in my back yard. Thats the only reason i joined a gym. If i had a basement then sod paying £45 a month.
