    bench press with bands?

Guy at my gym was showing a few people a technique using bands on the bar in addition to weights for bench press, its kinda weird because when you get toward the top of the movement, the bands kick in and pull it down kinda making you struggle... There elastic bands if anyone is unsure what i'm talking about... but what do you think of this?

My training partners use them from time to time. I have as well but not very often. I'd say you probably won't want to go more than 3 weeks straight of using them, they can wear your shoulders out more than straight weight on benching. It's a good thing to do if you're slow off your chest and it also make the lockout more difficult too.

It's called accommodating resistance. I've never used bands for this, though I have used chains, which is the same concept. It just alters the force curve such that the tension doesn't decrease so much after your shoulders and elbows pass beyond 90 degrees as it would with just straight weight.

3 feet or so? I'm not exactly sure. They dangle from a smaller chain though. You can vary the height of the smaller chain by altering how many links up it clips, or wrapping it around the bar more.
