Well I attempted to row with straps today. I even used straps..on 225lbs. Lossed some strength here. I dont even think I needed straps.

I gotta get my groove back, but I am training for size, so numbers mean shit right now.

225lbs. Jesus. I was even using body english. Aw well. Thats what I get for doing Yates Rows and DB rows for the longest time.

I'm at a point where my lifting is a lifetime journey and i refuse to subject the most vital part of my body to unnecessary stress.

My lower back gets hammered enough with Dl's, squats, their variants, picking shit up all the time and day to day activities. For rows, i stick to cable and chest supported "spider rows" and DB rows.

I'm only 21 y/o and already feel like i have the injuries of a middle aged man, i'm icing something everyday and would like to keep that to a minimum while still lifting and remaining functional.

Its only a functional movement until you herniate an intervertebral disc.

Might have to go back to Yates...
Hey, who has the best back of all time?= Dorian Yates...Enough said
People seem to miss the point, it's not about doing every excersise with textbook good form, it's about doing whatever delivers the best results! Duh!
This one seems obvious, but a lot of people seem to miss the point, and become ''good form fanatics''..Then they wonder why aren't they growing

Yeah, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out Dorian's rows are the best, I've tried old school bent-over rows, with my body parallel to the ground, and it's just totally ridiculous, you can't even go heavy or you'd tip over forward, unless you were extremely heavy
Bent-over rows Dorian Yates's style win hands down, in my opinion

    I prefer bentover rows 100%.
Not if you learn how to lift with your lats, I get my traps AND my lats sore from Dorian rows

There's a whole technique to this, you kinda have to learn how to engage your lats with this lift. I swear I don't feel it that much in my biceps, it's all lats and traps. It hits the brachi and brachialis muscles too, but I find nothing beats Dorian rows for back development, at least for me. Everyone is different

I couldn't agree more. At my job, I am standing most of the day, and arthritis has started developing in my ankle from repeated football injuries. Doctors told me years ago that I would have arthritis, because x-rays showed so much scar tissue build up. I have hurt my back so many times, I'm scared to know what an x-ray of my back would look like.

I do bentover rows every now and then, because I am retarded, but supported rows are probably where I need to stick for a while. I think sumo deadlifts and hyper extensions is all the lower back work I need.

And guys...don't put too much stock in how the exercise "feels" or burns or whatever. If you are doing it in form, then just look for improvement/progress, then you know you are doing something right.

Screw that! If I don't feel the pump right away I leave the gym.

I looked at your mypsace pics the other day.

Holy shit, you look a DECADE younger with the (i guess its newer) newer hair style than the one in your avatar.

Gotta say though, the hair in the avatar is a lot better.

In any case, Yanick brings up a good point about all the other shit I do bending over and such, that makes me wonder if barbell rows can be eliminated in replacement for a supported row. I do have a herniated disk too, so yeah, FUCK, I think I might have to ditch them.

I just added ATG squats back in my routine, so I gotta still be careful.

In any case, I did like Kel's comment about straps. My deadlifts have been shitty since I stopped using straps. I wanted to work on my grip, but I am training for mass and I need the reps/intensity in my deads, so straps it is.

See the chicks dig the shag though.

About ATG squats. I read an article by boyle a while back and it was explaining where the myth that squats are bad for your knees came from...and it was a book published a long time ago that said that the hamstrings put a prying force on the knee when you squat until ur butt hits ur ankles....it kinda makes sense. I only squat to femur parallel now.

I'm with ya on the femur parallel technique. I tried ATG a handfull of times and just felt unstable and awkward. Basically I didn't feel like I was getting a better workout from it.
I do my best to focus on the task at hand, and give 100% in what I'm doing at the time. Nothing else matters except the task at hand.
