Strange Bench Exercise

Last night at the gym, I saw a guy place a resistance strap locked on one side of the barbell, then underneath the bench, and up again to the opposite side of the barbell.

He had 135 on the barbell, plus the resistance coming from the strap.

It looked very awkward, I've never seen him at the gym before (although I did go late), he wasn't very muscular, etc.

Why do you think he was doing this?

I've seen some guys do that at the gym as well. I figured it somehow has to help you drive the bar up when it lightly touches your chest. I may be wrong though.

Same idea as adding chains.

Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.

It allows you to accelerate the bar for a longer period of time. The band decelerates the weight rather than you.

Well, you have to do some deceleration, just not as much.

If sense were common, everyone would have it.
