decline push ups .. even off their knees and rolling hindu should help them out aswell. If you don't have equipment or a budget and can find a chair or platform , it's probably a good alternative start.

Well see like I said Im not expert, so Im not entirely sure what muscle groups are utilized when your doing a pull up... but Im sure you could do something besides a pullup to work those specific muscles.
