You want to run faster, or are you thinking of some other kind of speed?

What is your training status (How long have you been training)?

    How much can you squat/deadlift?

If you only deadlift that much, I'm highly skeptical that your squat is to parallel or better.

What kind of deadlifts are you guys talking about here? I think straight legged deadlifts wouldn't really help running speed too much.

    The classic deadlift should though.

I dunno guy really I would just say work on getting that deadlift to a lot more weight and balance yourself out. Really work on getting a stronger core and RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN like the wind when you train. Deadlifts and Squats will help strengthen your legs, torso, and back in very beneficial ways but the most important aspect is training those fast twitch muscles IE sprinting your guts out.

Yeah but if you squat 400 you would probably DL close to 500. Normally. 135-150 would be your warm-up set.

Why not? Glutes and hamstrings are essential for running. I don't know about endurance running, but training legs, glutes, quads, calves, and hams helped my sprinting speed by quantum leaps.

I raced a buddy of mine recently. He has smoekd me all of my life at running. I would go as far as to say he was twice as fast as my at the 100yd dash. After training legs over the last 3 years I raced him recently, and we were neck and neck the whole race.

I know you can't call it scientific fact based off of 1 isolated case, so I'll just say I believe it does rather than saying I know it does.

I meant as opposed to the classic deadlift which is more focused on your legs than the straight leg which puts most of the effort on your back.

The greater the synergy of all your leg muscles the better you'll be at all forms of running. So if you're going to train your legs lifting wise it's just like anything else, if you're working anterior you need to work posterior, if you're working a push you need to work a pull..... this is old hat. I don't even know why I bother typing this sometimes

But yeah KelJu I didn't mean they wouldn't help at all I just wanted to know what kind he was doing.

I squat around 300 for sets and only choose to SLDL around 225 or less when I do them, since I don't like to deadlift that much, so although the gap isn't that big between my two lifts, I can see what the guy is saying.

You're doing them straight-legged, which is harder for some. Also, the gap is only 75lbs for you. His gap is about 275lbs.

Anyway, how many 18/19 year olds squat over 450 pounds?
