    So deads work the butt eh...

    so..... i overhear this "trainer" teaching a couple of kids (probably 14 or 15) a bunch of exercises around the sqat rack... one of which was the deadlift... when i heard him say that deadlifts work the butt... now thats a way to get em started thinkin that one of the best excercises works out their ass... he was wrong on other occasions, that one stood out... in retrospect i shoulda said something...

    So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
    of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
    about another group that actually does something
    to improve their lives.

    Are you trying to say that the guy told you that deadlifts work the glutes? I consider glutes to be muscles in the buttocks area.

    If that is the case, he is 100% correct. Glutes are worked during squats, and deadlifts. Doing deadlifts and squats will give you a bigger, firmer butt.

    What else did he say that you thought was incorrect?

    Deadlifts DO work the butt. Its the main reason i do them. Its my goal to have the BIGGEST ass in the world.

    They will build theme parks on it.

    Haha, in my journal I have said that my ass has it's own gravitational pull. Once, when I was on ambien, I walked into the kitchen from my room butt ass naked with my roommate and his girlfriend in the room watching me. they were too stunned to say anything then, they said, but later my roommate's girlfriend told me I had a nice ass. Actually, her exact words were " shapely nice ass".

    Deadlifts absolutely work the glutes! If you aren't firing your glutes, especially to finish the lift, then you are probably compensating by trying to use your erectors for a function they were never intended to perform: hip extension.

    Thats too damn funny.
    I do my best to focus on the task at hand, and give 100% in what I'm doing at the time. Nothing else matters except the task at hand.

    I never said they dont work out the ass, i know very well they do, however, im sure all of you here know that they do more than just that...

    Target

    * Erector Spinae

    Synergists

    * Gluteus Maximus
    * Adductor Magnus
    * Quadriceps
    * Soleus

    Dynamic Stabilizers

    * Hamstrings
    * Gastrocnemius

    Stabilizers

    * Trapezius, Middle
    * Trapezius, Upper
    * Levator Scapulae
    * Rhomboids

    Antagonist Stabilizers

    * Rectus Abdominis
    * Obliques

    so... what i was sayin was that tellin these kids on their first day of trainin that deadlifts work the ass isnt the best thing, case in point, they come to the gym at the same time i do, theyve done pritty much all other excercises i saw him teach... deadlifts... nada...so that was my beef... no need to get so damn defensive.. shit!

    We aren't being defensive. Most of us are gym rats and information junkies, so we like to help people correct any errors in their training knowledge so that new people that come to this site looking to get healthier won't be confused.

    Also, rather than jumping all over the trainer, why not print out a copy of this and talk to him and the other lifters in your weight room about deadlifts.
