I think 3-4 times per week is generally optimal for a natural trainee, at least as far as resistance training is concerned.

I agree with the 3-4 times a week. You shouldn't work out a muscle group more than twice a week though. Recovery time is just as important as the actual exercises.

I think it depends a lot upon your lifestyle/work etc and what you do for the rest of the week. if your sitting down most the day and dont do any other kind of excersize besides weight lifting id say you could get away with 5 days a week providing your getting optimal rest. I on the other hand only work out 3 days a week (push/pull/legs) as i snowboard once a week and also swim at least once a week, maybe twice.

I think your workout schedule is the least of your problems. You training program is terrible. I'm not trying to be an ass, I am trying to help you.

Read the stickies in the training forum, then get back to us when you have something drafted it.

That's a pretty good summerization of posts.

Just to give everyone an idea of what I do each week, hopefully this will help:

Monday - Off
Tuesday- Legs, Cardio
Wednesday - Off
Thursday - Chest and Back, Cardio - soon to be cardio only
Friday - Abs (if I feel like doing some before my cardio session) and Cardio only - switching with Thursday soon
Saturday - Shoulders, Cardio
Sunday - Biceps, Triceps, and Abs, Cardio

I do about 6 exercises per day/group (Sunday might see 4 for arms and 3 or 4 for abs if I'm feeling particularly frisky) and I almost never go over an hour (unless I have a real brainfart and can't remember how to count - I spent 10 minutes trying to figure out how to add 390 pounds on a hammer strength machine - how many 45's, god I felt dumb).

I dedicate an entire day for legs simply because there is so much to do (Squat, Deadlift, Leg Press, Lunges, etc) that can easily take up an entire hour on their own.

There, I hope that helped.

What an impossible question. It totally depends on what kind of variety you have and what kinda volume each muscle group is being exposed to. I think you could do low volume full body 4x a week. On a side note.. I'd just NOT lift if I had a split like you are using. No wonder you guys are arguing about stuff like this. Do some compound lifts.. if you do enough of THOSE, your bis and tris WILL be big.

Muscles can definitely be trained more than 2 times a week. When I trained total body I trained everything 3-4 times a week. It can be done if you balance the the work properly.

depends on a lot of things.

what are you defining as "training?" Some say "training" and they only mean resistance training. Others say training and they mean the whole show, lifting and cardio.

I would say for lifting, somewhere between 2-4 days per week depending on what else you have going on in your program.
