Roughing up the palms.
Is there a certain way to increase hand durability as in not getting torn up and just about to the point of bleeding from certain workouts, I've tried using gloves and I've torn through them. Does that durability just come with time?

Yea, dead lifts are a killer, that and other stuff, I go from using 220-250lbs on deadlifts.

Right where the finger meets the palm, I heard if you urinate on your hands its suppose to make them tougher, but I don't know if thats a joke or what, and I haven't done that just fyi.

^ maybe the acid would kill the skin cells?
It takes time to build of skin integrity, just like anything else. I like to go barehanded while using chalk. Chalk seems to decrease the chance of skin ripping for me. |

![]() Do you have any skin aliments? Eczema or the like? It just doesn't make sense that you'd make your hands bleed while lifting those numbers. Hmmm...how often do you do Deads, per week that is. |

maybe your hands have too much moisture? That is another reason I like chalk, it gets rid of the moisture.
When your palms sweat the skin becomes softer and it is more apt to rip than when dry. |

I'd get a new pair of gloves. Good ones (leather). I'm still using my first pair, eventhough the thumbs have ripped out. Bought em nearly a year ago. |

Even without gloves my hands don't bleed with those numbers either. I'm just saying it's possible.

My question is, is the bar moving in your hands as you lift? If it is, then that's your problem. Find some way to keep the bar perfectly tight in your hands, don't allow it to slip or roll at all. Chalk has been mentioned and is a very good suggestion. I'd also look into some lifting straps. You'll get a lot of nay-sayers who don't like straps because they take away the work your forearms are getting during the lift. But if you can't do the lift in first place because of bleeding hands, then your forearms aren't getting worked anyway.

The bar is "sliding"???? How the hell does the bar slide during a deadlift? Ive had my palms bleed in the same location. Feels and looks like a paper cut. I just lifted right through them and now I dont get them anymore. If you dont want to get callouses then use straps. I always used gloves throughout my lifting "newbie" days and they gave me callouses. In fact, my palms bled during the time I was using gloves... |

Whenever I use the overhand grip when deadlifting I can barely hold onto the bar. I must have really horrible grip. So I switched to the 1 hand is overhand and the other hand is underhand grip. Can't remember what that is called.

I'm sorry "slide" wasn't the best use of words there, the bar just sorta rotates...ya know like it turns in your hands right when you lift it.

Depends on what bar I'm using. If it's an older bar, it will just rotate in my hand and because it's so coarse I can hold onto it. If it's a new chrome ass bar there's no hope, it rolls out. Chalk cures all though, so do straps obviously.
