    How dumb was this?

Before I get flamed...I know it wasn't the smartest move!

Today on chest me and my buddy were in quite a rush, because he had to go early, so I agreed to go fast (figured it would be a good change of pace)

Anyways I usually pyramid up like this on Flat Dumbells...95lbs,105lbs,115lbs,125lbs...So my buddy was like lets just go right into the 125lbs.

I did 45lbs for 10, 75lbs for 10...then did 125x12, 125x10, 125x7 for 3 sets. The first set FELT LIKE A PIANO fell on me and I just woke up out of a coma, but I got 12.

Just wondering if this is unsafe/dangerous to do to just jump right into the heavy weight. I felt really stiff on the first set, but the others one felt ok (but not too good) my arms were kinda stiff.

Did I hurt anything? Is this totally stupid to do?

A general warmup then a specific warmup would be much more idea.....but if you think you are ready to go to it, then by all means have at it. But once yuou get hurt, then there is no do overs.....

No I dont think its a bad idea per say. (sp?)

Depends on if your internal core is warmed up too....as far as getting your shoulder joint warmed and 'lubed' up, its up to the trainee.

Shit, do you feel pain now or do you feel DOMS?

Doesn't matter what kind of weight you jump into so long as you properly warm up.

    Not dumb, just unnecessary.

Jog and do some warm-up sets and then go about your business.

    Per se is
    • A Latin phrase used in English arguments for "by itself"
It also is used in law:
    • Illegal per se is the legal usage of 'per se' in criminal and anti-trust law
    • Negligence per se legal use in tort law

i recognize stuff like this from reading too much

The fact that it felt like a PIANO hit you and that you felt stiff says:

    a) joints and muscles weren't warm to prepare the work you were asking them to do.

    b) nervous system wasn't ready for that kind of load

Is it dumb......well, you didn't get hurt....but I wouldn't do it. Once again, risk > reward

Depends on how you felt and what your warmup looked like. For sets of 12 I sometimes just do a set of 12 with 50% of my working weight as a specific warmup.
