    deadlift + platform

The 45lb plates at my gym are seem large (radially). So I started to use a little platform when i deadlift so that I could get lower.
But... when i use the platform, during the bottom of the motion it is hard to keep my back straight. I am getting close to chest parallel to the floor (maybe 15 degrees) at the bottom of the movement, so should i not be worried about going that low.

the platform adds 2 inches or so, and I am 6'5".

Is using this platform just a matter of taste? Without it i can pull way more weight (230 vs 200). So would that be a bigger positive than a little bit larger ROM?

Ive been contemplating this for a while.

Oh yeah im going for hypertrophy and no im not pretending 230 is a lot for a deadlift :P

Deadlifts are performed without a platform, Platform Deadlifts are performed with one. They're two different exercises. Naturally, if you're standing on a platform you're going to be pulling using more hamstring than you will back.

Switch off if you must, but yea, it's pretty much just a matter of taste.

What about a volume set of short controlled concentric peak pulses off the platform as ( sesh before ish) warm up?

For hyperthrophy a platform is great. Just keep your back straight at all times.
