    Help!

I was wondering if it's possible to train steriod-free have form a good six pack while bulking. I train with 25-50 lbs on my chest while working my abs. Sometimes I think I'm just wasting my time with my abs.

I beleive that u can mantain a 6 pack while bulking. With close watch on your diet you can probably do it. While you are bulking you have to give some stuff up for more muscle. Working your abs is the best thing for you . If you total blow off your ab workouts you will be more likely for lower back pain and injury. I think the abs are the most important muscle.

Diet is key, whats your current bodyfat %?

Abs aren't going to show very well if they are covered by a bed of blubber (don't ask me how I know).

If diet is the key. Then I could just keep the weight at 25 lbs for crunches? If so, how many sets & reps should I do? Mainly, I do 3 sets of 30-40 reps.

losing a significant amount of body fat and significantly increasing LBM is virtually impossible...
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

i dont think you adding weight to your crunches is adressing the problem of you seeing your abs.. yes it will make your abs bigger and stronge but the fat will still cover them... if you want to see your abs i say you pick bulking or "cutting"/getting leaner and do one or the other first

Alot of people say they are "not fat", but that could be 15-20% bodyfat. Fat people dont have to look obese. I consider myself fat (sadly), and I'm 6'2" 215 pounds. I have a desk job, I work with computers all day. In the past I was a class B truck driver, I've worked in warehouses, and back then I could eat just about anything and maintain a rather lean body. Now I'm actually up to 20.7% bodyfat, and am finally forcing myself to count calories and mix in occasional low impact stationary bike.

I may not look fat to the untrained eye, but compared to being 8% in the past, I'm fat. My short term goal is to get down to about 192 pounds (10% BF), after that who knows. Counting calories though is the only way to know for sure where your diet is putting you at, no more guessing.

My BMR is 2167 calories (IIRC)

This is not a great picture to tell from, but outwardly I do not look too bad off, but again look at the numbers

If I did that my abs would stick out further than my chest !! IMO, you don't need weight for abs.

When I was in HS, I could do 127 situps in 90 seconds (no cheating), and I used 90 pounds on an incline bench (set to max incline) for my reps. However, my abs didn't stick out past my chest

Since I've asked for advice, I know what I got to do. So, what do you recommend for sets & reps without weight?

Work till you feel the lactic acid burn. for me that is around 40 crunchs. Also for the six pack a bulk is not the right place to start trying to form one. I would say keep on bulking until you have built enough mass and cut for a month. that is the time where the six pack will become visable.

Mudge, stop beating yourself down. A negative attitude is only going to develop into depression or worse: a body image problem. Be proud you have the knowledge to tweak your body the way you know you can!!!

I know, I'm trying to be positive about gains instead of thinking of the years of slowly added fat. It does kill my endurance however which is upsetting, when I was lean I could just about do anything and recover my breath in a couple minutes if not sooner, I felt unstoppable.

Looking to hit 10% BF and then go from there
